I'm getting old
Our final morning of luxury! Comfy bed and buffet breakfast! Rat and cockroach free! Ah, this morning seems long distant after a few hours in our new digs towards the south of Kolkata.
Final fling - two types of yogurt and fresh watermelon
We did make it a very leisurely breakfast, sad to be parting from The Park, and our Uber driver needed reassurance a couple of times that we really wanted to go where we'd asked. After multiple twists through the remote Behala labyrinth we arrived at our new home.
There's really nothing wrong with the place, apart from the contrast! A couple of crushed cockroaches at the entrance is much better than live cockies inside, and we are on the second floor so surely they'll not make it up here?!
We have the garden balcony floor
The place is clean enough and the truth is we've stayed far worse places. Bed has set a new standard in hardness, but marginally better than sleeping on the ground.
The area is cleaner than much we've experienced but an absolute warren. We took a stroll and did find an excellent shop to stock up on a few victuals for a few days.
There's a school next door. Evening saw lads playing cricket and football, some of them combining the two depending on which ball came closer, even if they were batting at the time
As we were waiting for Jen's friend Gulnar and husband Cyrus to collect us to head out for supper I saw a rat in the street absolutely, genuinely, literally cat-sized.
Ah well. We are having a couple of nights elsewhere having booked a trip to the Sundarbans south of here; a big fuss is made of the tigers there but we'd rather concentrate on birds and other creatures than focus on almost certainly not glimpsing a tiger.
And so to Gulnar's. It was their daughter, Arinaz whose wedding we enjoyed weeks ago. They have a simple but lovely apartment in the same region of Kolkata and have lived here decades - but they'd never been to our patch! Supper out with them.
Fine time together, and we've been invited to several events over the coming week. So, though we're booked here for a week, on Thursday we head to the Sundarbans then are staying with Gulnar and Cyrus. But by then we'll be used to here, I'm sure: though if I step on a cockroach in the night we're finding somewhere else! What a softie I've become.
Really, it's not bad! Clean and with a fridge.

Eek. I do struggle with roaches!! Greetings from Stockholm. Haven’t seen any yet!! Loving your accounts! Safe travels as usual!
