Lunglei's in darkness

It'll be a short one because all wifi is down and mobile signal very slow.

It's Mizoram Day today, commemorating the founding of the state in 1987. Functionally for us that means the banks are closed so Mazaha could take us for a sightseeing trip. Also there was a football match kicked off at 0830 we could watch over breakfast - great view.

Maza with his driver collected us at 10.00 and we first saw the oldest kirk in Mizoram - or a replica, at any rate. Tiny and sweet, and only from the beginning of the twentieth century.

As is usual, great views from here.
There was also a parade we couldn't see but could certainly hear the bagpipes and drums - there's a very strong Scottish tradition among the regiments of the north east, including music and kilts.

Next stop was a hill overlooking the town. Forested and really loud with some sort of cicada - sounded like a siren. The viewing platform this time appeared well constructed, though the guard rail at the top was perfect height for sitting on and, I imagine, also perfect for falling over! We didn't, though.
Our road from yesterday

We've paid for the hotel and gone wandering to find supper - took torches!

Sumo leaves (should leave...) at 0600 tomorrow.
