It's suddenly very quiet
Our unscheduled hotel stay ended this morning and we made the most of breakfast being supplied - toast for Jenny while I added a chilli omelette. After our unpleasantness when we arrived being overcharged by an auto-rickshaw driver it's quite a relief to be able to book an Uber - so simple and far cheaper than we were charged for the rickshaw!
We headed for the river where there's a cable car crossing the Brahmaputra. Wonderful experience, though being charged more than double the rate for Indians and a limit of two hours across the water was a shame.
North Guwahati is a bizarre contrast to the south - so quiet! We strolled a while, mixing with cattle and goats which wander freely. It's dry season just now - wet season raises the water level considerably.
Back in the busy part of town we walked through the legal district. Everyone seemed to be wearing gown or at least a suit. After a cake in a café we noticed a cricket ground with activity and settled in to watch a few overs. It turned out not to be lunch break but a gap between matches so instead of a few minutes before play resumed it was over an hour. I managed to find playmates, though.
Another Uber to collect our bags and journey to the suburbs almost, and settled into our Airbnb apartment - it's wonderful! Loads of balcony, kitchen and sitting room and very clean and comfortable. It may be almost suburban but there are still shops and restaurants around. Supper was a thalli (full mixed meal) each (chicken and mutton), very tasty, filling and remarkably good value. On our way home we shopped for milk and cereal - breakfast will be just like home for a few days.
